Center for Athletic Training

Canisius College opened the Center for Athletic Training in the summer of 2007. The state-of-the art facility, centrally located in the Koessler Athletic Center, is used for game and practice preparation and is fully equipped for acute and long-term injury rehabilitation. The Center houses private offices for the College’s team physicians and full-time Certified Athletic Trainers who serve the needs of Canisius’ student-athletes. An adjacent Hydrotherapy area compliments the Center in providing the highest quality care for those donning the Blue and Gold.

The Griffs have two physicians who provide care on a regular basis to the college’s student-athletes. Head Team Physician, Dr. Rajiv Jain, covers home ice hockey games and visits campus bi-weekly for general and sports medicine examinations. Dr. Keith Stube, team orthopedic surgeon, is on campus weekly and covers men’s basketball home games. Six full-time Certified Athletic Trainers provide coverage to all 16 varsity intercollegiate sports coverage in both their traditional and non-traditional seasons.

Canisius has a CAATE-accredited undergraduate athletic training program, which prepares students for the NATA Board of Certification exam. Athletic training students gain practical experiences both on and off-campus alongside Certified Athletic Trainers, assist in sports medicine coverage of Golden Griffin sports and are an integral part of the sports medicine team.
