Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to Rider in MAAC Championship Opening Round

Chloe Fisher scored the game's only goal in the 20th minute to help lead Rider to a 1-0 victory over Canisius in the opening round of the 2023 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship tournament Sunday afternoon at Demske Sports Complex.

With the win, sixth-seeded Rider (8-8-2) advances to the MAAC Women's Soccer Championship semifinal round, where the Broncs will travel to play at top-seeded Quinnipiac. Canisius sees its season end with a record of 9-4-5.

Fisher's goal, her fourth marker of the season, came at the 19:01 mark of the opening half. Fisher was able to settle a pass in the box from teammate Ava Ferrie and beat Canisius keeper Jordan Spencer for the game's only score. Rider's Courtney Green was also credited with an assist on Fisher's game-winning score.

The Griffs provided plenty of offensive pressure on the Rider defense in the game, but the Blue and Gold was unable to get a ball past Rider goalkeeper Ellie Scianclepore. Canisius outshot Rider 22-6 for the game, with a 16-2 advantage in the game's second half, where Scianclepore was credited with three saves. The Griffs also held a 7-1 advantage in corner-kick chances, with five of those seven coming in the game's final 45 minutes.

GAME NOTES
• Sunday's game served as the 29th all-time meeting between the two programs, and it marked the second-straight year where the Griffs and the Broncs met in the conference tournament.
