Canisius rowing head coach Kerri Brace announced the addition of graduate assistant Michaela Hess to her staff. Hess enters her second season with Canisius.

"I am thrilled to have Michaela join us this fall," Brace said. "She will undoubtedly make this program better through her passion for the sport and her work ethic. In her short time with Marietta, she made a lasting impact. I'm excited to have her bring that determination to Canisius."

Hess joins the Golden Griffins after completing her undergrad at Marietta College. While with the Pioneers, Hess walked onto the rowing team her junior year and quickly became a top rower for the program and conference. She secured Mid Atlantic Rowing Conference Novice All-Conference and MARC Academic All-Conference Team during her junior season, helping Marietta take second at the MARC Championships.

During her senior season, Hess became co-captain of the program and picked up MARC First Team All-Conference and MARC Academic All-Conference honors. Her senior season saw the Pioneers secure numerous top-three finishes, including third at the MARC Championships and second at the Devil's Lake Invitational.

Away from the scull, Hess was a coach at Cleveland Foundry, where she assisted with learn to row programs and works with rowers ranging from ages 6-18.

A native of Painesville, Ohio, Hess complete her undergrad in political science with a minor in environmental science. She also holds numerous licenses and certifications, including a US Rowing Level One Coaching License, a boating license, and a motorcycle license.
