Men’s Soccer Loses to Siena After Second Half Rally

Two second-half goals from midfielder Junior Kone propelled Siena to a 3-1 comeback victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Wednesday in Loudonville, N.Y.

With the loss, the Golden Griffins' record slipped to 1-8-4 overall and 0-3-2 in conference play, while Siena climbed to 3-7-0 overall, with a 3-1-0 record in MAAC play.

GAME RECAP
Both teams played a cautious game in the first half, each slowly building their attacks with careful passing and picking their opportunities meticulously. The Saints had the most chances in the first half, leading the Griffs 13-4 in shots. Despite the deficit, Canisius was the more efficient team, with three of its four shots being on target.

Late in the first half, junior midfielder Dylan Rice was able to dribble into the Saints box before the ball was poked to senior defender Inder Thind, who crossed the ball to the back post. The pass found the waiting head of Rice, who buried the shot for his first goal of the season.

With Canisius up 1-0 after the break, the Saints turned up the pressure on the Griffs defense. The change paid off, as within the span of 10 minutes, the Saints tallied three goals to take a controlling lead.

Kone started the scoring spree in the 70th minute, sneaking the ball past the Canisius keeper Jack Petrie to tie the match at 1-1. Ben Biton gave the Saints the lead with a powerful shot that deflected off a Canisius defender into the net at the 71:25 mark. In the 78th minute, Kone notched his second goal of the contest he received a cross from Lee Mara and tapped it home to bring the match to its final score of 3-1.

Petrie ended the match with two saves off of 22 shot attempts, while Siena goalkeeper Bennet Glider had four saves on six shots.
