Women's Soccer Plays to a 1-1 Draw Against Siena

Box Score GAME RECAP
Freshman Jessica Whitaker scored in the 67th minute to propel Canisius to a 1-1 draw verus Siena in MAAC women's soccer action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex.

The Golden Griffins moved to 6-2-5 on the season and 3-1-2 in league play with the draw, while the Saints saw their record shift to 3-6-4 overall and 2-1-3 in conference.

Siena got out to a strong start, with three shots on goal in the first six minutes of the game that saw Canisius junior goaltender Jordan Spencer record three of her six saves during that span.

The Griffs would get their first chance of the opening frame at the 9:23 minute mark off the foot of junior forward Madeline Weltin, but Saints goaltender Brooke Boermeester would make the save to keep the game scoreless.

The Saints would take a 1-0 lead early in the second half as Annie Bagnall who would corral a pass off her chest from Iona Snape and rip a shot from the top of the box that beat Spencer to the right side in the 53rd minute.

Canisius would draw level in the 67th minute thanks to Whitaker, who was able to redirect a pass from junior defender Sophia Konstantinou past Boermeester to knot the score at 1-1

Meghan Heath nearly put the Griffs in front in the 87th minute, but her header off a Canisius corner kick found the crossbar and stayed out of the Siena goal.

Spencer and Boermeester both finished with six saves in the contest.
