Women's Soccer Defeats Mount St. Mary's in Their Pink Game

GAME RECAP
Sophomore midfielder Lizzy Harkness scored the only goal of the contest in the 64th minute to lead Canisius to a 1-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's soccer action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins' (7-2-5, 5-1-2 MAAC) first chance would come from the foot of junior midfielder Emma Oliphant, who tried to squeak one past Mountaineers goaltender Klil Keshwar in the bottom left, but could not capitalize.

The Mountaineers would test Canisius junior goaltender Jordan Spencer for the first time at the 28-minute mark with a shot from Erin Antone, but Spencer would stand strong, making the first of her three saves.

The Griffs got out to a hot start in the second half with four shots in the first 10 minutes, none of which would find the back of the net.

Canisius broke the scoreless deadlock at the 64:12 mark thanks to Harkness, who would send a shot between the legs of Keshwar off a pass from freshman Jessica Whitaker.

Mount St. Mary's would try to tie the game late with a shot from Nicole Wilson in the 83rd minute but Spencer would turn her shot aside and help lead the Griffs to victory.
