Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls at Rider

Chloe Fisher scored the game's only goal in the 68th minute to help lead Rider to a 1-0 victory over Canisius in MAAC women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Ben Cohen Field in Lawrenceville, N.J.

After playing a scoreless first half, which saw Canisius hold an 8-4 advantage in shots, the Broncs (6-6-2, 4-3-1 MAAC) took the lead for good at the 67:34 mark of the second stanza. The goal-scoring play started in the midfield, where Rider's Ava Ferrie pushed a pass forward to teammate Genevieve Ryan. Ryan then carried the ball forward before sending a pass to Fisher, who was able to beat Canisius goalkeeper Jessica Jones for the lone marker of the contest.

Jones came into the contest in the 36th minute, as she replaced Canisius starter Jordan Spencer in goal. Spencer was injured in the first half after a scramble for a loose ball in front of the Golden Griffins' net.

Canisius (7-3-5, 5-2-2 MAAC) ended up out-shooting Rider by a 22-6 count for the game, with 14 of those shots coming after the intermission. The Griffs recorded five shots on goal in the game's final 45 minutes, including three shots on frame in the game's closing 90 seconds. However, Rider goalkeeper, and 2022 MAAC Golden Glove award winner Ellie Sciancalepore was up to the task, as she recorded her fourth shutout of the season. Sophomore Mia Iacona led all players with eight shots in the losing cause for the Blue and Gold, with three of those being credited as shots on goal.
