Cornell’s Two Goals Leads Women’s Soccer To A Win Over Marist

Box Score GAME RECAP
Sophomore midfielder Skylar Cornell scored twice to lead Canisius to a 2-0 victory over Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's soccer action Saturday at Tinney Stadium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins (8-3-5, 6-2-2 MAAC) first chance of the game would come from the foot of junior midfielder Emma Oliphant in the 14th minute when she tried to sneak one past Red Foxes goaltender Maddy Catalanotti, but could not capitalize.

The Red Foxes (2-9-5, 2-5-3 MAAC) would test Canisius senior goaltender Jessica Jones for the first time at the 24-minute mark with a shot from Amanda Caldarelli, but the shot would go off the crossbar.

Three minutes into the second half Cornell would break the scoreless deadlock when she blasted a shot into the top left corner of the net of the Marist net.

Marist would get their only shot on goal of the contest in the 61st minute from Bridget Dudziec but Jones would stand strong stopping the shot to keep the Griffs in front.

Cornell would strike again with five minutes remaining in regulation to extend the Griffs lead to two, finding the bottom left of the net off of a pass from Oliphant.
