Hockey Falls to AIC in Series Finale Saturday

Alfred Lindberg and Alexander Malinowski tallied two goals apiece to lead AIC to a 6-1 victory over Canisius in Atlantic Hockey Association action Saturday at LECOM Harborcenter.

Malinowski also added a pair of assists to finish with four points while Lindberg added a single helper to post a three-point night for the Yellow Jackets (11-8-0, 8-4-0 AHA), who earned a split of the weekend series with Saturday's victory. John Lundy and Blake Wells also scored for AIC while Nils Wallstrom finished with 19 saves between the pipes.

Junior Matt Vermaeten tallied the lone goal for the Golden Griffins (5-9-3, 5-5-3 AHA). Freshman goaltender Ethan Robertson recorded 30 saves.

Lindberg gave AIC a 1-0 lead with 65 seconds to play in the opening period, beating Robertson with a wrist shot to the blocker side from the right face-off circle.

Malinowski doubled the Yellow Jackets margin at the 6:55 mark of the second period, getting behind the Canisius defense before beating Robertson with a wrist shot for his first of the contest.

Lindberg struck for his second of the game exactly two minutes into the third, depositing Malinowski's cross-ice feed past the right leg of Robertson during a power-play opportunity to make it a 3-0 contest.

The Yellow Jackets struck twice in a 1:27 span towards the midway point of the third to make it a 5-0 contest. Lundy began the sequence with 7:20 elapsed in the final frame, firing home a centering feed from Lindberg for his third goal of the series before Malinowski struck moments later when finished off a give-and-go passing play with Dustin Manz for his second goal of the evening.

Vermaeten spoiled the Yellow Jackets shutout bid with a shorthanded goal at the 11:13 mark of the third, intercepting an AIC pass and racing down the ice before beating Wallstrom with a wrist shot from the right face-off circle to make it a 5-1 game.
Wells closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal with under eight minutes remaining in the third after Canisius pulled the goalie during a power-play opportunity, determining the five-goal final margin.
