Game Recap: Ice Hockey |

RPI Completes Sweep of Hockey with 2-1 Win

Sutter Muzzatti tallied a goal and an assist while Jack Watson made 27 saves to pace RPI to a 2-1 victory over Canisius in collegiate men's ice hockey action Saturday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Muzzatti tallied the opening goal and recorded the secondary assist on Austin Heidemann's game-winning goal to help the Engineers (5-11-1) secure the sweep of the weekend non-conference series.

Graduate student Erik Urbank tallied the lone goal for the Golden Griffins (5-11-3). Freshman Ethan Robertson made 29 saves between the pipes for Canisius.

After a scoreless first, Muzzatti gave RPI a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at the 5:17 mark of the second, depositing a loose puck into the Canisius goal from just off the right post for his fifth goal of the season.

Urbank answered back for Canisius a little less than three minutes later when he redirected senior Cody Schiavon's shot from the point into the Engineers goal to knot the score at 1-1.
Heidemann put RPI back in the lead with 11:55 elapsed in the middle frame, one-timing a feed from John Evans between the legs of Canisius goaltender Ethan Robertson to make it a 2-1 contest.

Canisius pushed for the equalizer in the third, outshooting the Engineers by a 12-6 margin during the final 20 minutes, but Watson and the RPI defense kept the Griffs off the board to secure the one-goal victory.
