Men's Soccer Blanked by Binghamton in Loss

Binghamton scored twice in a 51-second span midway through the second half to break open a scoreless contest and defeat Canisius, 2-0, in collegiate men's soccer action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex.

The Bearcats claimed their second win of the season to improve to 2-4-0 on the campaign while the Golden Griffins slipped to 1-4-1 overall.

GAME RECAP
The first half of the contest was played to a stalemate, as neither team had many opportunities to score. Binghamton held the edge, taking nine shots, with Canisius keeper Spencer Catalano corralling the three Bearcats shots on-target.

Canisius registered its best chance to score in the final minute of the opening frame as sophomore Glodie Mata and senior Riley Wagner put up hard shots that were thwarted by the Bearcat backline.

The Binghamton offense began to click after the break, and in the 65th minute, a shot from Devin Heanue gave the Bearcats the 1-0 lead. Marcus Nahim doubled the Binghamton advantage less than a minute later when he broke through the Canisius defense and scored an unassisted goal. Binghamton controlled the majority of the possession the rest of the contest to secure the victory.

Catalano recorded a season-high seven saves between the pipes for Canisius. Binghamton goalkeeper Dylan McDermott collected one save to complete the shutout.
