Women's Soccer Falls at Quinnipiac 2-0

Box Score GAME RECAP
Quinnipiac would score twice in the second half to defeat Canisius, 2-0, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's soccer action Saturday Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden, Conn. 

Quinnipiac improved to 4-3-0 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play (2-0-0) while the Golden Griffins moved to 4-2-4 on the season and 1-1-1 in conference with the setback.
 
Quinnipiac's first chance came six minutes into the contest with a shot from Emely Vliet that would go wide of the net.
 
Jordan Spencer would make her first of three saves in the 30th minute, stopping a shot from Ella Gagno in the middle of the net.
 
Quinnipiac broke the scoreless deadlock two minutes into the second half as Olivia Scott placed past Spencer into the bottom right corner of the net. Emily Van Der Vliet and Madison Mandleur were credited assists on the play.
 
Canisius registered its first shot of the game in the 69th minute off of the foot of Junior Madeline Weltin but it would end up going wide left.
 
Sophomore Skylar Cornell authored the Griffs first shot on net in the 73rd minute but it would be stopped by Bobcats goaltender Sophia Lospinoso.
 
The Bobcats closed out the scoringin the 81st minute thanks to Milena Branco, would beat Spencer with a shot into in the bottom right corner of the goal. Courtney Chochol picked up the lone assist on the tally. 

GAME NOTES
• Saturday's game served as the 14th all-time meeting between the two MAAC schools
• The Griffs two shots on Saturday represented their season low in that category
• Canisius saw its unbeaten streak halted at eight games, the longest unbeatn streak in program history since the 1989 season
• Nine Griffs played the full 90 with head coach Ryan Louis using only two substitutions off of the bench
• Junior Maddy Ingraham made her first start of the season
 
UP NEXT
Canisius continues MAAC play Sept. 30 when it hosts Iona on Senior Day. Opening kickoff for the contest between the Griffs and Gaels is slated for 1 p.m. at the Demske Sports Complex.
