Men's Soccer Plays to 2-2 Draw Versus Le Moyne

Sophomore Michael Switala netted his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 27th minute to pace Canisius in a 2-2 draw versus Le Moyne in collegiate men's soccer action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Completing their non-conference slate with the draw, the Golden Griffins bring their record to 1-6-3 while the Dolphins moved to 0-4-4 on the 2023 season.

GAME RECAP
Canisius opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes of play, with freshman Matthew Fischer drawing a penalty in the Le Moyne box. Sophomore midfielder Daniel Longo was given the nod on the penalty kick, scoring his third goal of the season to put the Griffs up 1-0 in the ninth minute.

The Dolphins answered back quickly, as Noah Spertado equalized the game off of a Felix Ludemann cross and Brett Stern header.
Before the break, junior Dylan Rice made a sharp pass to Switala inside the Le Moyne box, where he shot the ball between the legs of Dolphin keeper Wyatt Dupell to give the Griffs a 2-1 edge heading into the break.

The second half saw both teams get an equal chance to tie the game or extend the lead as each side recorded four shots. The only shot on target in the frame came from the Dolphins, which found its mark in the 66th minute as Kjell Knaak tied the game at 2-all.

The Griffs had multiple chances to take the lead following Knaak's equalizer, including a long pass from the Canisius goalkeeper Spencer Catalano, which found a streaking Ely Sidibe, who then played the ball to Glodie Mata. The two forwards were unable to find the net, however, and the game ended in a tie.

Catalano made three saves out of 14 shots taken by the Dolphins in the contest, while Dupell made two saves off of 12 shots faced between the pipes for Le Moyne.

Thoughts on the game from head coach Michael Tanke and sophomore midfielder Michael Switala
