Swimming and Diving Off to Record-Breaking Start at MAAC Championships

Three Canisius swimming and diving relay teams broke program records as both the men's and women's teams finished the day in sixth place to begin the 2024 MAAC Championships Wednesday afternoon at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Both teams hold a sixth place spot after the first day of action, with the women's team garnering 62 points while the men's team collected 58 points.

The first day was highlighted by the women's 800 relay team, who placed second with a time of 7:32.81. The team of Evie Leighton, Brenna McLaughlin, Reilly King and Ashley Allaire broke the school record of 7:34.76 set last season.

Leighton teamed up with Hannah Brainard, Cassandra Ercoli and Jordan O'Connor to smash another school record in the 200 Medley relay, finishing fifth with a time of 1:43.98. O'Connor, Allarie and Brainard all broke records in these two events last year at the 2023 MAAC Championships.

On the men's side, the relay team of Marin de Villard, Sam Vidal, Bronson Benes and Alexander Hiltbrand broke the men's 200 medley relay record set in the 2018-19 season with a time of 1:29.53.
