Hockey Rallies for Overtime Victory Versus Robert Morris

Senior Griffin Loughran scored 1:15 into overtime to lift Canisius to a 5-4 victory over Robert Morris in Atlantic Hockey Association action Saturday at Clearview Arena in Moon Township, Pa.

Seniors Jackson Decker and Jack Lyons and sophomores Stefano Bottini and Oliver Tarr also scored for the Golden Griffins (11-17-4, 10-10-4 AHA), who took 5-of-6 points from the Colonials (10-21-3, 7-15-2 AHA) during the weekend series. Freshman netminder Ethan Robertson made 29 saves.

Cade Townend, George Krotiris, Cameron Garvey and Dallas Tulik all found the back of the net for RMU. Chad Veltri turned aside 47 shots as Canisius posted a 52-33 shot advantage for the contest.

Loughran's game-winning goal came on a face off in the RMU zone as he won the draw forward before flipping the puck over the left shoulder of Veltri, capping a wild affair that saw neither side holding a multiple-goal advantage during the game.
Earlier in the contest, Townend open the scoring at the 16:19 mark of the first period when his wrist shot from the right point found its way through traffic and past the blocker of Robertson.

Tarr tied the game at 1-1 a little more than two minutes after Townend's opener with a 5-on-3 goal as his cross-ice pass redirected off a RMU defender and into the Colonials goal.
The teams traded goals during a 21-second span in early stages of the second period. Krotiris put RMU back in front at the 6:32 mark of the frame, firing a wrist shot over the glove of Robertson during a zone rush.

Lyons brought Canisius level on the next shift with his first of the campaign, wiring a slap shot over the glove of Veltri from the top of the point to level the score at 2-2.
The score remained the same until the teams combined for three goals during a 2:16 sequence midway through the third period.

Bottini put Canisius in front for the first time at the 11:35 mark of the third, stuffing a loose puck under Veltri to put the Griffs up, 3-2.
RMU tied the game less than 90 seconds later on a deflection by Garvey before Tulik restored the Colonials lead for the third time when his centering feed on the rush ricocheted off the skate of a Canisius defender and into the Griffs goal to put RMU in front, 4-3.

Decker brought Canisius level with 2:42 to play in regulation as he blasted a one-timer from the top of the point that beat Veltri to the blocker side for his seventh goal of the season, sending the game to overtime and setting the stage for Loughran's heorics.
