Highlighted by a trio of finals qualifiers on the women's side and one on the men's side, the Canisius men's and women's indoor track teams took part in day one of the 2024 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in New York City on Saturday.
For the men, senior Andrew Perreault finished third in his heat and took fifth overall in the preliminaries of the men's one-mile run, crossing the finish line in 4:15.58 to qualify for the final on Sunday.
Graduate student Tom Appenheimer (15:02.50) registered a top-10 finisher with a seventh-place result in the men's 5,000-meter run.  Â
Sophomore Arthur Hartel also broke his own school record in the 60m dash, crossing the line in 7.55 seconds.
The women's distance medley relay took second place as the quartet of junior Kayla Schmidt, senior Maura Jordan, senior Jules Jones and graduate student Olivia Moran finished in a time of 12:03.81.
Graduate Student Marissa Silba (5:08.24) and sophomore Jacqueline Appenheimer (5:07.96) both qualified for the final of the women's one mile finishing sixth and ninth respectively.Â
Jordan won her heat in the 400m run and qualified for the final tomorrow as she crossed the finish line in 57.81 second to establish a school record.
Senior Stephanie Seyfang also broke her own school record in the 60m hurdles, finishing with a time of 9.70.
The MAAC Championships conclude Sunday at 5 p.m. at the New Balance Track & Field Center with those who qualified in Saturday's events.
