Men’s Lacrosse Falls at Little Three Rival St. Bonaventure Tuesday

Jake Kucinski and Patrick Shanahan tallied four points apiece to pace St. Bonaventure in a 12-8 victory over Canisisius in collegiate men's lacrosse action Tuesday at the Marra Athletics Complex in Olean, N.Y.
 
Kucinski scored a game-high four goals while Shanahan tallied three goals and added an assist for the Bonnies (1-5), who picked up their first win of the 2024 season with Tuesday's victory over their Little Three rival.
 
Grant Giunchi won 12-of-16 faceoffs and added six ground balls. Cristofero Cucciuffo finished with 10 saves between the pipes for St. Bonaventure.
 
Senior Jackson Webster (2g, 1a) and juniors TJ Buono (1g, 2a) and Patrick Mitchell (1g, 2a) all registered three points each for the Golden Griffins (2-5). Junior goalie Tommy Kunz finished with 11 saves.
 
Webster opened the scoring for the Griffs, but the Bonnies used goals from four different players to build a 4-1 cushion at the end of the first quarter.
 
Easter and Mitchell opened the scoring in the second quarter to pull Canisius with one, but consecutive tallies from Shanahan completed his first half hat trick and ignited a five-goal outburst that lasted until the halftime buzzer to give St. Bonaventure a 9-3 lead at the break.
 
The third quarter saw Canisius once again tally the first two goals of the frame, but the Bonnies responded with two of the final three goals of the quarter to carry an 11-6 advantage into the fourth.
 
The fourth quarter saw Kucinski net his fourth of the game with 7:21 remaining to give the Bonnies a 12-6 lead. Buono closed out the scoring with a pair of man-up tallies 25 seconds apart during the last three minutes of the game to determine the final four-goal margin.

GAME NOTES
• Tuesday's contest served as the 10th meeting between the Little Three rivals. The home team has won the last five games in the series.
• St. Bonaventure outshot Canisius by a 41-34 margin for the contest, highlighted by a 27-10 edge in the first half.
• Canisius was 3-of-4 in man-up situations while St. Bonaventure was 0-for-4 in EMO on Tuesday.

Canisius returns to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play Saturday when it travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for a 1 p.m., contest against Marist at Tenney Stadium.
