Women's Lacrosse Picks up Fifth Straight Victory with Win over St. Bonaventure

Box Score Sophomore goalie Jody Chu made a season-high 11 saves while senior Caroline Netti totaled a team-best three goals to propel Canisius to a 9-8 victory over Little Three rival St. Bonaventure in intercollegiate women's lacrosse action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins improved their record to 6-1 as they extended their winning streak to five games while the Bonnies fell to 4-4.

Senior Riley Davis added in a pair of goals while freshman Megan Previdi provided two assists. On the defensive side of the ball, senior Jill Galanti hauled in a game-high five ground balls, with sophomore Meg Hiltz following close behind with three. Galanti also led the Griffs in caused turnovers with two. Senior Maddie Mazur picked up four draw control victories.

Fiona McGovern led the Bonnies with a game-high five goals and six points. Brit Coangelo collected three ground balls and in net, Ashley Herrick made 10 saves for the visitors from Olean.

After allowing the first two goals of the game, the Bonnies rattled off four unanswered tallies during a nearly six-minute span to grab a 4-2 advantage.

The Griffs defense took control of the game after the early St. Bonaventure surge, keeping the Bonnies off the scoreboard over the next 35 minutes while using a pair of tallies from Netti and individual markers from Davis and Mazur to build a 6-4 lead.

Grace Hollenbeck finally broke St. Bonaventure's scoreless streak a little more than five minutes into the fourth with her first of the contest, igniting a three-goal spurt that gave St. Bonaventure a 7-6 edge moments before the six-minute mark of the fourth.

Davis answered back for the Griffs a little more than a minute later, firing a free-position shot past Herrick to tie the game while Maddie Fitzgerald and Paige Stachura struck just 74 seconds apart to provide Canisius a 9-7 advantage with just over three minutes to go in regulation.

McGovern netted her fifth of the game with 87 seconds to play to pull St. Bonaventure within one, but Canisius won the ensuing draw control and maintained possession for the remainder of regulation to secure the one-goal victory.

GAME NOTES
• Tuesday's game served as the 17th all-time meeting between the two sides with Canisius now holding a 10-7 edge
• Canisius is now 2-0 against the Atlantic 10 this season. They previously beat George Washington, 11-6, to open the year.
• Stachura is now one goal away from passing Chelsea Martinez (2006-09) for tenth place on the program's career goals list with 119.
• Netti notched her third hat trick in a row and fifth for the campaign
• Previdi has provided at least one assist in all but one game this year
• The contest served as the programs annual Morgan's Message game.
