Hockey Eliminated from AHA Postseason with Double-Overtime Heartbreaker at Holy Cross

Jack Seymour scored at the 2:53 mark of double overtime to lift No. 2 seed Holy Cross to a 2-1 victory over No. 8 seed Canisius in game two of their Atlantic Hockey Association Postseason Quarterfinal Round Series Saturday at the Hart Center Rink in Worcester, Mass.

Jack Robilotti also scored for the Crusaders (20-12-4), who swept the best-of-three series, 2-0, to advance to the semifinal round of the AHA Postseason. Jason Grande made 38 stops in goal for Holy Cross

Sophomore Grant Porter accounted for the lone goal for the Golden Griffins (12-21-4). Freshman Ethan Robertson finished with 40 saves between the pipes for Canisius.

Seymour netted the game-winning goal less than three minutes into the second overtime period after Liam McLinskey found him unmarked on the back post as he swung around the Canisius net, allowing Seymour to lift the puck into the goal and send the Crusaders onto the next round.

Earlier in the contest, Porter gave Canisius a 1-0 lead at the 9:45 mark of the first period, wiring a cross-ice feed from freshman Jackson Nieuwendyk past a sprawling Grande to put the Griffs in front.
Holy Cross tied the game just before the eight-minute mark of the second. Robilotti fired a wrist shot from the top of the right face-off circle that deflected off a Canisius defender and between the legs of Robertson to tie the game at 1-1, where it would remain until Seymour's series-clinching goal.

HEAD COACH TREVOR LARGE'S POSTGAME COMMENTS
"It was another quality hockey game tonight. Credit to Holy Cross on the double overtime win, it was a hard hockey game. I'm proud of this team. I liked how we played. We've dealt with a lot of adversity; guys being banged up, in and out of the lineup, lots of injuries. It's not the reason why it wasn't our time, but the adversity that we faced was obvious and I am proud of the group to put in an effort like they did this weekend. It was two games that we came out on the wrong side of, but we had a good opportunity to try and have a different outcome. So, I'm proud of this group. The rest of my thoughts and feelings go towards an awesome group of people in our seniors and graduate students. Our program is about people and some of those guys played their last game for us tonight. We're proud of all of them.

"There's several guys on our team that that led us to a championship game appearance early in their career and also led us to win a championship later in their career. At the same time, they're leaving Canisius a better place. There is an expectation that we have to win. Winning a championship is a legacy that they're leaving that they will never forget, and we definitely will not.

"We have a lot in this group to build on. We must understand very quickly that we start our preparation for next season with guys that are in this locker room right now that that had successful years. I look at our returners and we've got a lot to build with. We must focus on ways to get better and that's the goal every year. This team is not leaving with a championship, but I'm very proud of the group."
