Men’s Lacrosse Defeated by Quinnipiac in MAAC Opener

Dylan Donnery scored four goals and Mason Oak made 16 saves to propel Quinnipiac to a 14-7 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

Donnery was one of three Bobcats (5-0, 1-0 MAAC) to finish with four points as Jake Tellers and Even Perry both notched hat tricks and added and an assist. Ryan Donnery tallied three points (1g, 2a) while Max Pauwels was 12-of-25 at the face off "X" with nine ground balls.

Freshman Mason Wolford notched two goals and added an assist for the Golden Griffins (2-4, 0-1 MAAC). Junior Kayden Easter recorded two goals while three players – senior Keegan Kozack, junior Mikey Howe and sophomore Dylan Collins – all notched one goal each.

Junior Tommy Kunz made 10 saves between the pipes for Canisius. Sophomore Micah Hanson recorded 12 face-off wins and scooped up six ground balls.

Wolford opened the scoring less than two minutes into the contest before Quinnipiac responded with the final three goals of the opening frame to grab a 3-1 lead after the first.

The second quarter followed a similar script to the first, with Easter providing the opening tally for the Griffs, only to see the Bobcats answer baack four stright goals to build a 7-2 cushion at the break.

Quinnipiac out-scored Canisius, 2-1, during the opening stages of the third quarter when an even-strength tally from Collins sparked a three-goal surge that lasted just under three minutes and pulled the Griffs within three, 9-6, with 5:45 to play.

The Bobcats regained control of the game before the end of the frame, scoring twice in the final 2:01 of the frame to restore their five-goal advantage heading into the fourth, 11-6.

Kozack got the scoring started in the fourth, but Quinnipiac shut the door on any comeback attempt by Canisius, recording the final three goals of the contest to determine the seven-goal margin of victory.
