Women's Lacrosse Overpowers New Hampshire

Freshman Megan Previdi and graduate student Paige Stachura paced the Canisius offense with four goals each in its 16-6 win over New Hampshire in intercollegiate women's lacrosse action Saturday morning at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.
 
The Golden Griffins, who have now won three straight, improved their record to 5-1 while the Wildcats dropped to 2-5.
 
Along with Previdi and Stachura, senior Caroline Netti also completed a hat trick with three goals. Sophomore Meg Hiltz and senior Riley Davis notched two assists while on the defensive side of the ball, sophomore Taylor McArthur nabbed a team-high three ground balls. Senior Catherine Wall caused a game-high three caused turnovers and in net, sophomore Jody Chu made six saves in the win.
 
Liv Dunne led the Wildcats with two goals and one assists. On defense, Jesslyn Hounchell and Olivia O'Connor each grabbed three ground balls with O'Connor also leading New Hampshire with three ground balls.
 
After trading the first four goals to begin the game, the Griffs offense found their stride, scoring the final two goals of the first quarter before rattling off the opening three goals of the second stanza to hold a 7-2 lead. Previdi paced the run, scoring three times to secure her hat trick before the end of the first half.
 
The Wildcats would get a goal back to make it 7-3, but a pair of late tallies from Stachura and senior Grace Harner sent the Griffs into the locker room with a 9-3 edge.
 
Out of the halftime break, the Griffs kept their pressure up, scoring the final three goals of the third quarter, with Stachura completing her hat trick, to build a 12-4 edge heading to the final frame.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Griffs scored four of the final six goals, with graduate student Victoria Gottorff notching the Griffs final goal of the afternoon, to secure the 16-6 home win.

GAME NOTES:
• Today served as the first ever meeting between the Griffs and Wildcats on the women's lacrosse field.
• Canisius is now 17-8 all-time against the America East conference in women's lacrosse.
• Gottorff's goal in the fourth quarter was the first of her Canisius career
• Canisius was 16-for-21 on clears compared to 14-of-18 for New Hampshire
• Sophomore Maggie Tifft scored two goals in a contest for the first time this season
• Previdi tallied five points in the Griffs win, equaling her season-high which she set on March 2 agaisnt Detroit Mercy
• The Griffs 16 goals and 17 ground balls are each season-highs.
