With the win, the Golden Griffins snapped their four game losing skid and improved 9-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play while the Jaspers slipped to 4-10 overall and 1-5 in MAAC action.

Along with Fitzgerald, graduate student Paige Stachura, senior Caroline Netti and junior Hailey Rooney helped pace Canisius with two goals each while sophomore Meg Hiltz notched a team-high two assists. The Canisius offense continued to hum in the second quarter as it rattled off the first three goals of the middle stanza to expand their lead to four, 5-1, with 7:13 left.

Manhattan found some momentum before the first half ended, scoring three times with under six minutes to play, but the second goal of the afternoon from Fitzgerald let Canisius head to the locker room ahead, 6-4.

Out of the halftime break, Canisius once again found its offensive spark, opening the frame with three unanswered goals to grow their lead by five, 9-4, with 8:17 left.

The Jaspers got a score back with 4:19 left, but two late goals from Canisius, both courtesy of Fitzgerald to complete her hat trick, sent the Blue and Gold to the fourth quarter ahead 11-5.

Canisius added one more goal in the fourth quarter off a converted free-position attempt from Rooney to secure the win.

POSTGAME COMMENTS:
"Today was a solid team win where we were able to get our synergy back. We were connecting and turning big defensive stops into goals on the offensive end. Maddie Fitzgerald was once again playing like a veteran as a freshman and making major contributions all over the field for us."
