Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Late-Game Run Dooms Men’s Lacrosse Against LIU

LIU scored five of the last six goals of the game to erase a two-goal deficit and defeat Canisius, 17-15, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Friday at the Demske Sports Complex in downtown Buffalo.

Owen Stefanko recorded four goals and four assists while Sean Boll scored five goals and added a helper to pace a potent Sharks attack (8-2, 5-1 MAAC). Tom von Bargen chipped in three goals while James Butler finished with two goals and two assists for four points.

Freshman Mason Wolford scored a season-high six goals for the Golden Griffins (3-9, 1-5 MAAC). Junior Kayden Easter notched two goals and an assist while four players chipped in two points apiece.

Sophomore Micah Hanson went 22-of-32 at the faceoff "X" as he matched the school record for faceoff wins in a game. He also scooped up a career-high 18 ground balls while also contributing a goal and an assist.

Trailing 14-12 early in the fourth quarter, LIU used a pair of tallies from von Bargen and Stefanko over a more than eight-minute span to retake the lead, 16-14.

An unassisted goal from junior Patrick Mitchell with just under two minutes to play pulled the Griffs within one, but Cam Connolly restored the Sharks two-goal cushion with just 24 seconds to secure the win.

Earlier in the contest, LIU tallied the first three goals of the second quarter to break a 3-3 deadlock and build a 6-3 cushion.

Canisius got back into the game before the end of the frame, tallying the final two goals of the quarter to make it a 6-5 game at the break before scoring three of the first four goals of the third to take its first lead of the contest, 8-7.

LIU answered the Griffs run, using a 4-1 spurt over a nearly four-minute stretch to pull back in front, 11-9.

Canisius once again had a response, registering three of the last four goals of the third before seniors Keegan Kozack and Hunter Parucki opened the scoring in the fourth to give Canisius a 14-12 advantage, setting the stage for the Sharks' late-game run.
