Game Recap: Ice Hockey |

Hockey Doubled up by Miami (Ohio) in Debut

Artur Turansky tallied two goals to pace Miami (Ohio) in a 4-2 victory over Canisius in collegiate men's ice hockey action Friday at the Steve "Coach" Cady Arena in Oxford, Ohio.

Raimonds Vitolins and PJ Fletcher also scored for the RedHawks, who improved to 2-1-0 on the young season with the win.

Senior Randy Hernandez and freshman Matteo Giampa accounted for the two goals for the Golden Griffins, who made their season debut on Friday.

Turansky staked Miami to a 1-0 lead just before the five-minute mark of the first period when he placed a shot past the glove hand of senior Canisius netminder David Fessenden from the right face-off circle.

Vitolins doubled the RedHawks advantage to 2-0 with 13:21 elapsed in the opening frame as he tapped home a goalmouth feed from John Waldron for his first of the campaign.

Hernandez cut the Canisius deficit in half at the 17:35 mark of the first period, beating a Miami defender to a loose puck before placing a shot over the glove of Miami goaltender Logan Neaton to make it a 2-1 contest.

Turansky picked up his second goal of the evening with a power-play tally moments before the midway point of the second period when his pass deflected off the stick of a Canisius defender and into the Griffs goal, putting the RedHawks in front by a 3-1 margin.

Fletcher stretched the Miami lead to 4-1 on a power-play goal less than three minutes into the third, depositing Max Dukovac's centering feed past Fessenden from the middle of the slot.

Giampa pulled Canisius within two with less than three minutes to play in regulation, lifting a backhanded effort over the blocker of Neaton for his first collegiate tally.

Fessenden made 22 stops between the pipes for Canisius in his debut in Blue and Gold. Neaton turned aside 31 shots in goal for Miami.
