Moran Leads Cross Country at the Canisius Alumni Classic

Canisius senior Olivia Moran paced the field with a time of 17:14.5 to win the Women's 5k and graduate student Tom Appenheimer took home third place in the men's race with his time of 24:11.6 as both the women's and men's cross country teams took part in the annual Canisius Alumni Classic Saturday afternoon at Delaware Park.

As a team, the Canisius women placed first in the 12-team event with a team total of 24 points. The Golden Griffins made up for half of the top 10 with senior Jules Jones in third (17:49.4), sophomore Kayla Schmidt in fifth (18:00.5), graduate student Marissa Silba in sixth (18:02.5) and sophomore Jacqueline Appenheimer in ninth (18:29.6).

On the men's side, Appenheimer led the way for the Griffs with sophomore Kyle Urban (24:49.1/seventh) and graduate student Andrew Perreault (24:56.8/eighth) also placing inside the top 10. Senior Max Chew (25:07.8/11th) and senior Patrick Garland (25:33.1/17th) rounded out the top five Canisius runners to help lead the Griffs to a second-place finish with 41 team points, 11 back of first-place Binghamton (30).

Canisius returns to action on Oct. 28 when it takes part in the 2023 MAAC Cross Country Championships at the Twin Ponds on the Farm in Montgomery, N.Y.
