De Villard’s Record-Breaking Day Paces Swimming and Diving in Tri-Meet

Marin de Villard took home four first-place finishes and established a pool record in the 200 back to help lead the Canisius men's swimming and diving team to a 167-120 victory over the University of Rochester at the Speegle Wilbraham Center in Rochester, N.Y. Saturday.

Despite numerous first-place finishes for the women's team, including a sweep from Brenna McLaughlin, SaraJo Gardner and Jordan O'Connor in the 200 back, the Golden Griffin women fell to MAAC opponent Siena, 177-111. The women's team did come up victorious against the Yellow Jackets, defeating them by a score of 173-111.

De Villard led the way for the men's side, breaking the pool record in the 200 back with a time of 1:52.50. He also took first in the 200 free (1:43.13), 500 free (4:55.16) and alongside Bronson Benes, Sam Vidal and Alex Hiltbrand, took first in the 200 free relay (1:27.76).

Benes, Vidal and Hiltbrand took first in the 200 medley relay as well, alongside Elliot Somers, with a 1:36.37 time. Vidal and Benes both took home two more individual first-place finishes. Vidal won both the 100 (58.820) and 200 breast (2:11.74) while Benes won both the 100 (51.85) and 200 fly (1:56.71).

Ben Yant also had a quality day in the pool, taking first place in the 50 (22.01) and 100 free (49.26). Alongside Vidal in the 100 breast, Eric Kim (1:00.0) and Jeremy Cox (1:00.22) took second and third place, respectively, to complete the sweep.

On the women's side, freshman Evie Leighton and McLaughlin continued their early-season dominance in the water. Leighton took first in the 200 free (1:56.47) and third in the 100 free (54.78). McLaughlin came in first in the 200 back with a time of 2:09.73.

Freshman Cassandra Ercoli picked up her first collegiate win in the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.83. Senior captain Jordan O'Connor earned another first place finish in the 100 back (1:00.07).
