Swimming and Diving Finishes Day One of the Magnus Cup Invite

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving team began the first day of the Magnus Cup Invitational Thursday in collegiate swimming and diving action in Cleveland, Ohio.

After a full day of competition, the men's team ranks sixth out of the six teams competing for the cup, while the women's swimming team polls in 11th out of the 12 teams participating.

The men's relay teams paced the Golden Griffins on the opening day of the invitational, with the combined efforts of Marin de Villard, Bronson Benes, Sam Vidal and Ben Yant earning a sixth place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:23.33). Vidal, de Villard, Yant and Alexander Hiltbrand teamed up for another top-ten finish in the 200 free relay, placing eighth with a time of 1:24.60.

Cassandra Ercoli and Eric Kim both had quality finishes in the 50 yard breaststroke. Kim finished 13th in the event with a season best time of 26.57, with Ercoli finishing 18th with her own season best time of 30.22.

De Villard earned a 13th place individual finish in the 500 free, touching the wall with a time of 4:38.48, smashing his previous personal-best time of 4:53.60.
