De Villard and Mayfield establish program records as Swimming and Diving wraps up Magnus Cup Invitational

Freshman Marin de Villard and sophomore Toby Mayfield recorded multiple program records in the last two days of the Magnus Cup Invitational, as the swimming and diving teams concluded action in Cleveland, Ohio.

After the three-day event, The men placed fifth in the invitational out of six participating schools with a score of 602 while the women's squad finished eleventh out of 12 schools, earning a team score of 41.

De Villard set a new program record in the 100 back with a time of 49.20, earning him a third place finish and outpacing the previous time of 50.11 set by Archie Minto last season at the 2023 MAAC Championship on Feb. 10. De Villard also took second in the 200 back with a time of 1:47.41 on Saturday, breaking another program record set by now assistant swimming coach Greg Staebell.

Mayfield claimed his record in the 100 IM with a time of 52.40, placing fifth in the event.

De Villard continued his big day on Saturday in the 50 backstroke, winning the event outright with a time of 23.22.

Sam Vidal continued his productive season in his signature stroke, placing sixth in the 100 breast with a 56.47 time. Bronson Benes had an excellent performance on Saturday, placing second in the 50 fly with a time of 22.58 and establishing a new personal-best time.

Up Next:
The Canisius swimming and diving teams will close out the calendar year at home, returning to the Burt Flickinger Center to take on Little Three rival St. Bonaventure in a dual-meet scheduled for 6 p.m. on Dec. 5.
