Baseball Falters at Liberty

Macaddin Dye and Noah Rabon combined for seven RBI and two home runs as Liberty battered Canisius pitching to win 12-1 in collegiate baseball action at Liberty Baseball Stadium in Lynchburg, Va.

The Golden Griffins (6-8) were held to just three hits as the Liberty bullpen threw 5.1 scoreless innings in relief of starter Nick Moran. Senior Ty Wevers registered the lone run of the ballgame for the Griffs, blasting a solo home run over the center field fence in the top of the third inning.

Canisius starter redshirt junior Justin Guiliano is saddled with the loss, giving up seven runs in 3.2 innings of work.

Offensively, the Griffs were unable to crack the Liberty pitching as Ben Blair and Garrett McLaughlin held them hitless over 4.1 innings. Blair earned the win, striking out three without issuing a walk.

Besides Wevers' solo homer, graduate Mike DeStefano knocked a single in the third inning and junior Trent Rumley singled in the ninth inning.

The Flames got the hitting started early, goin up 2-0 in the second with RBI hits from Dye and Brian McClellin. Wevers home run cut the lead in half in the third, but the Flames quickly responded with a two-run homer off the bat of Rabon.

Dye and Aiden Sweatt added to the lead in the fourth, hitting a two-run homer and RBI single respectively, making the score 7-1. Sweat and Rabon hit back-to-back doubles in the sixth with Rabon scoring on a wild pitch to extend the lead to the final score of 12-1.
