Baseball Swept at George Washington

Five George Washington hitters recorded multi-hit games and three hitters tallied multi-RBI performances as they took the 9-1 victory over Canisius Sunday in collegiate baseball action from Tucker Field in Arlington, Va.

With the win, the Revolutionaries build to a four-game win streak and 14-9 record on the season. The Golden Griffins fall to a 6-12 record in their non-conference schedule.

Graham Jefferies earned the win for George Washington, holding the Griffs to two hits and one run over 5.0 innings of work. In relief, Jarrett Korson and Benny Wilson held the Griffs scoreless in the remaining four innings.

Junior Jackson Strong scored the lone run for the Griffs, hitting a solo home run in the third. Junior Trent Rumley recorded two singles in the ball game and freshman Eric Weeks recorded a pinch hit double in the ninth inning.

Graduate Mike DeStefano reached on a lead-off walk in the first, and immediately stole second base. With this stolen base, DeStefano became the Canisius all-time leader in stolen bases, passing Kyle Domogala (1999-01) with 58 career stolen bases.

The Revolutionaries jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Tim Nicholson and Charlie Rogan hit back-to-back RBI hits off Canisius starter Felix Morin. Morin took his first loss of the season, going three innings while allowing five runs.

GW continued to score in the second, with Sam Gates and Steven Ditomaso hitting RBI singles to bring the score to 4-0.

Strong's homer cut the lead to three in the third, but the Griffs' progress was erased in the bottom half of the inning as Rogan tallied his second RBI of the ball game.

In the fourth, Brett Young and Nicholson brought the lead to 8-1 with RBI singles. The Revs added one more run in the seventh with an RBI groundout to the pitcher by McGwire Tuffy, putting the final score at 9-1.

•DeStefano became the Canisius all-time leader in stolen bases in this game. He joins Branson Joseph (2006-09) and Jose Torralba (2011-14) as the only Griffs to steal over 50 bases and record over 200 hits in a career
