Moran Paces Cross Country at the NCAA Northeast Regionals

The Canisius men's and women's cross country teams took part in the 2023 NCAA Divison 1 Northeast Regional Friday at Van Cortland Park in The Bronx.
 
The Golden Griffin men placed 24th with a team total of 660, four points back of Ivy League-member Brown (646). The women finished in 18th place with a team score of 534, in front of MAAC-rival Siena (818).
 
Iona claimed the men's race with a team result of 40 points. Harvard (57) took second, while Syracuse (97) claimed third and Providence (145) took fourth. Cornell (161) rounded out the top five.
 
Syracuse won the women's race with a team total of 98 points, 11 points in front of second-place Boston College (109). Providence (137) took third just ahead of Harvard (140), while host Columbia (167) completed the top five.
 
Graudate Student Tom Appenheimer paced the Canisius men, finishing in 59th place with a time of 30:46.1 over the 10K course. Senior Max Chew (32:05.9/ 148th) and Sophomore Kyle Urban (31:53.5/159th) followed, while sophomore Brody Jones (32:16.8/159th) and senior Andrew Perreault (32:30.3/170th) rounded out Canisius' scoring runners.  
 
Harvard's Graham Blanks placed first in the men's race, crossing the line in 29:31.6, nine seconds ahead of Iona's Damien Dilcher (29:40.1). Iona's Joshua DeSouza placed third (29:40.8).
 
For the women's team, graduate student Olivia Moran led the way finishing in 32nd with a time of 20:36.0. Junior Kayla Schmidt (21:37.7) and senior Jules Jones (21:40.5) placed 101st and 107, respectively. Graduate student Marissa Silba (22:19.5/147th) and sophomore Jacqueline Appenheimer (22:24.8/154th) accounted for the last of the top-five runners for the Griffs.
 
Harvard's Maia Ramsden claimed the women's individual title with a time of 19:24.4. Providence's Kimberley May (19:37.3) finished second, while Columbia's Phoebe Anderson (19:46.2) took third.
