Jordan, Moran Pace Indoor Track at the Utica Ice Breaker Invite

Paced by wins from graduate student Olivia Moran and senior Maura Jordan, the Canisius men's and women's indoor track teams kicked off the 2024 season Friday in the Utica Ice Breaker Invite at the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center in Utica, N.Y.
 
On the women's side, Moran won the 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:02.66. Jordan gave Canisius their second win of the meet when she finished first in the 200-meter race with a time of 26.84, breaking the previous school record of 26.95 held by Kelly Thompson, who set the time in 2001.
 
Senior Stephanie Seyfang broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.97, topping her previous best of 10.04.
 
Sophomore Jacqueline Appenheimer crossed the finish line in second-place in the 1000-meter race with a time of 3:07.82. Fershman Ella Herman claimed third in the 800-meter race, finishing in 2:32.80
 
Graduate student Marissa Silba and junior Taylor Heschke finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 5000-meter race, with Silba crossing the line in 18:33.90 and Heschke finishing in 18:45.56.
 
Following Moran, junior Kayla Schmidt and senior Jules Jones claimed third and fourth in the 3,000-meter race with times of 10:22.51 and 10:34.84, respectively.
 
On the men's side, senior Ronan McDonald gave the Griffs their highest finish with a second place in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:00.10.
 
Graduate student Andrew Perreault and senior Collin Rice both had top-10 finishes in the one-mile race, with Perrault placing fourth in 4:19.89 and Rice in 10th in 4:31.12.
 
Senior Max Chew had a top-five place finish in the 3000-meter run, placing fifth with a time of 8:50.34. Graduate student Dominic Clementi grabbed another top-10 finish for the Griffs in the 500-meter race, placing sixth with a time of 1:09.41.

Canisius returns to action Jan. 20 with an appearance in the SPIRE Midwest Open at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
