Baseball Claims First Win with Dominant Pitching from Peltier

Graduate student Tom Peltier struck out ten batters in relief to hold Presbyterian to two runs over four innings pitched en route to a 8-6 victory for Canisius Friday evening in collegiate baseball action at Elton Pollock Field at the PC Baseball Complex in Clinton, S.C.

The Golden Griffins (1-1) claimed their first win of the season, scoring eight runs off 10 hits, with four of those runs coming off the bat of junior Trent Rumley. The Blue Hose fell to 4-2 in their early 2024 campaign.

Peltier (1-0) came into the ballgame in the bottom of the fifth, holding the Blue Hose to two runs on five hits while striking out 10 batters along the way, one shy of his career high. The lefty has struck out 17 batters in his first two appearances of the season.

Junior Peyton Consigli got the start for the Griffs, pitching four innings while allowing three runs (one earned) and six hits. He struck out four batters without issuing a walk.

Junior Bryan Aduddle came on in the ninth to secure the save and the victory for the Griffs.

The Blue Hose put up two runs in the first inning to take an early lead before Canisius responded in the second with a run of their own. Senior Carlin Dick reached base on a dropped strikeout, and was driven in by a Rumley double to trim the deficit to 2-1.

The Griffs tied the game in the top of the third as junior Jackson Strong reached on a single, and scored from first on a double off the bat of Dick. Dick stole third and scored on a wild pitch to bring the score to 3-all.

The scoring quieted until the sixth when Rumley reached on an error and stole second base. Junior Howie Stuckey drove him in to take the 4-3 lead.

Rumley added to his career day in the seventh, hitting a three-run blast that scored Dick and sophomore Mason Cisco to bring the score to 7-3.

The Blue Hose responded with a pair of RBI singles from outfielder Joel Dragoo and second baseman Jack Gorman in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 7-5 contest.

Stuckey tacked on one more run in the ninth, recording an RBI single to bring in Rumley. The Griffs stifled a Presbyterian rally in the bottom of the inning to secure the 8-6 victory.
