Golf in Sixth After Day One of Matthews Auto Collegiate

The Canisius golf team posted an opening-round score of 291 and sits in sixth-place after the first round of the Matthews Auto Collegiate tournament, played Sunday at the Links at Hiawatha in Apalachin, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins' score of 291 is the lowest for the team this fall season, and it leaves the Blue and Gold one stroke back of Binghamton and Le Moyne, who are tied for fourth in the team portion of the event after the first 18 holes.

Junior Ryan Edholm shot a two-under par 70 on Sunday to lead the way for the Griffs. He sits in a three-way tie for seventh after the first round, where he is three shots back of opening-round leader Brandon Conner from Binghamton, who fired a 67 on Sunday. Freshmen Mikey Takacs and Jake Dantonio are tied for 27th in the field as they both shot a one-over par score of 73, while junior Ben Ramold and freshman Alex Schickling are tied for 45th after they both carded a three-over 75.

The second and final round of the Matthews Auto Collegiate will tee-off Monday morning.
