Golf Sits in Seventh After Day One at MAAC Championship

The Canisius golf team posted a team score of 298 on Friday, and the Golden Griffins sit in seventh place after the first round of the 2024 MAAC Golf Championship at Disney's Palm Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Canisius' 298 in the first round stands as the lowest team score for 18 holes during the 2024 spring season, and it is the lowest round for the Griffs since the team posted a 296 in the final round of the Bucknell Invitational last October.

Junior Ryan Edholm shot a one-over par 73 on Friday to lead the Blue and Gold. He is in an eight-way tie for 13th on the leaderboard after the tournament's first 18 holes. Freshmen Alex Schickling and Jake Dantonio and junior Ben Ramold are all tied for 24th after all three golfers shot a 75 on Friday. Dantonio ended his first round with 14 pars on his scorecard, which is tied for the second-most for any golfer in the 45-player field.

Siena leads the team portion of the 2024 MAAC Golf Championship after the Saints shot 285 as a team, which is three-under par. Siena is three shots ahead of second-place Fairfield (288) and seven strokes better than third-place Mount St. Mary's (292). The Griffs are five strokes back of Iona and Manhattan, which both shot 293, while Rider sits in sixth place after the Broncs posted a team score of 294 on the day.

Siena's Nolan Crowley is the leader after the first round after he carded a three-under score of 69. Crowley was one of four golfers in the field to shoot under-par in the tournament's opening round.

The second round of the 2024 MAAC Golf Championship will tee off at 7:54 a.m., on Saturday.
