Golf Finishes Seventh, Edholm Posts Top-10 Finish

The Canisius golf team finished tied for seventh with a two-round score of 588, while junior Ryan Edholm finished seventh on the individual leaderboard, as the Golden Griffins wrapped up the two-day Matthews Auto Collegiate event at the Links at Hiawatha Monday afternoon in Apalachin, N.Y.

Edholm shot a three-under par score of 69 in the second round to give him a two-round tally of 139, which placed him seventh in the field. The score of 69 marks his fourth career round in the 60s (second this year) and the two-round score of 139 matches his career low for a 36-hole tournament, set previously at the Cornell/Temple Invitational last fall. His seventh-place finish also stands as his fourth career top-10 performance.

Freshman Jake Dantonio shot a 74 on Monday to post a two-round score of 147, which was tied for 30th in the field, while fellow freshmen Mikey Takacs and Alex Schickling tied for 52nd, as both players finished with a tournament score of 150 over the two-day stretch.

The Villanova Wildcats won the team-portion of the tournament with a score of 571, which was five-under par for the event. Mount St. Mary's golfer Devin Smith fired a five-under par score of 67 on Monday to win individual medalist honors with his tournament score of 135.

The Griffs will return to the course Oct. 8-10, when the team travels to Lewisburg, Pa., to participate in the Bucknell Fall Invitational.
