Golf Closes Out Action At Cornell Fall Invitational

The Canisius golf team rebounded to post a team-score of 293 on Monday to finish ninth in the field, and junior Ryan Edholm recorded his sixth career top-20 finish by tying for 19th, as the Golden Griffin golf team closed out its participation in the 36-hole Cornell Fall Invitational at Watchung Valley Golf Club in Watchung, N.J.

Edholm fired an even-par score of 71 on Monday to tie for 19th in the field, his third round this fall season where he has scored even-par or better. His two-round tally of 146 was four-over for the tournament, and stands as his best 36-hole score for the 2023 fall campaign. Fellow junior Ben Ramold shot a one-over score of 72 in the second round for a two-round score of 147, which placed tied him with six other golfers for 21st. Freshman Mikey Takacs finished the second-round with a score of 73, his lowest score to date this season. He ended the two-day event in a six-way tie for 40th with a tournament score of 150.

As a team, Canisius' second round team-score of 293 on Monday stands as the lowest score for the Blue and Gold this fall season. The Griffs placed ninth in the team event with a team tournament score of 596. Siena won the team portion of the event with a team-score of 274. Siena's Matt Ferrari won individual medalist honors after he shot 138 over 36 holes, which was six-under par and two shots better than second-place finisher Kevin Hollomon from Colgate.

Earlier on Monday, the first round of the Cornell Fall Invitational was concluded after Sunday's action was suspended due to darkness. Canisius posted a team-score of 303 in the first round, which had the Griffs in ninth place in the 11-team field. Edholm and Ramold each shot 75 in the opening round to lead the charge for the Blue and Gold.

Canisius will return to action Oct. 1-2, when the team takes part in the Matthews Auto Collegiate. That event, which will be hosted by Binghamton, will be played at the Links at Hiawatha in Apalachin, N.Y.
