Takacs' 67 Leads Golf in Final Round at Southern Invitational

Freshman Mikey Takacs' career-low score of 67 led the way for the Canisius golf team on Tuesday, as the Golden Griffins closed out the 2024 Southern Invitational at the Falls Club in Palm Beach, Fla., in seventh place with a team score of 915.

Takacs was one of seven players in the field to shoot under-par in the third round on Tuesday with his 67, and that score stands as the lowest round for a Canisius golfer since teammate Ryan Edholm posted a 67 in the first round at the 2022 Bucknell Fall Invitational. After shooting 35 on the front-nine, the Iowa City, Iowa, native closed out his day with birdies on three of the last four holes in his round. He finished the tournament in 41st place with his tournament score of 235.

Edholm was the Griffs' top-finisher in the field, as he tied for 33rd with his three-round score of 229. Freshman Jake Dantonio shot a 76 on Tuesday to place 38th with his 54-hole score of 232.

In the team portion of the event, FAU won the 2024 Southern Invitational with a team-score of 823, which was 24 strokes ahead of second-place St. John's. All five of FAU's golfer finished in the tournament's top-10, led by Max Sturdza, who fired an eight-under par 63 on Tuesday en route to individual medalist honors with his 54-hole score of 197.

The Griffs will return to the course April 14-15 when the team takes part in the Albarta Coca-Cola Invitational at Northampton Country Club in Easton, Pa.
