The first Canisius program to win a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship trophy, the 1990 women's cross country team is the third female varsity sports program to be enshrined into the Canisius Sports Hall of Fame.
The team won six races, including the annual Little Three Championship over local rivals Niagara and St. Bonaventure, and the Blue and Gold finished third at the National Catholic Championships, hosted annually by Notre Dame.
at the National Catholic Championships, Heather (Whalen) Appenheimer, Canisius Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2001, won the race with a record-setting time of 17:54.6.
• The Griffs won the 1990 MAAC Cross Country Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, N.Y., with 21 points.

Canisius' 21 points in that race are tied for the sixth-lowest team score in MAAC history, and the Blue and Gold followed that effort with a 13th-place finish two weeks later at the NCAA Northeast Regional race.
