• Three-year letterwinner for the Golden Griffin men's basketball program from 1939-42.
• Also served as the team's head coach from 1948-53.
• Started his college playing career on the freshman basketball team in 1939 under Hall of Fame coach and player John Ryback. Helped that team capture the Freshman Little Three championship.
• Was widely-considered to be one of the finest play makers in all of college basketball.
• Posted a career coaching record of 72-53, highlighted by five victories over ranked teams during his tenure.
