• 1981 New York State champion in the 100 freestyle for the swimming & diving team
• Posted top times for Canisius in four different events as a senior and was virtually unstoppable in both the 50 and 100 meter freestyle events
• Active in a variety of clubs while at Canisius, ranging from chairperson of the Residential Hall Judicial Board to serving as laboratory instructor
• The author of 12 presentations and 48 publications, Mahoney graduated from Canisius in 1983 with a doctoral degree
