• Co-captain of one of the greatest basketball teams in Canisius history, which advanced up to the NCAA Regional Finals in Philadelphia, and was selected to the All-Star team for his performance in the tournament
• Also known as "Kelly the Cop" for his aggressiveness in guarding the leading scorer of the opposition and would hold his opponents way below their scoring averages
• After graduating, he took his leadership skills into service where he starred as captain of the Third Army District championship basketball team
