  • Nicknamed "The Albion Antelope" for both his speed and elusiveness on the ground of Albion High School.
  • As a sophomore, he was named on Frank Korch's Little All-American Second Team.
  • He later earned Little All-American First Team honors, and was named to Bill Stern's Little All-American Team in Life Magazine.
  • During his three years in the football program, he scored 116 points, gaining 914 yards on 199 rushes.
  • He also completed 51 of 127 passes for 671 yards, and punted 151 times for an average of 42 yards from scrimmage.
  • Drafted in the NFL by the Detroit Lions in 1942, played for the 1945 NFL World Champion Cleveland Rams, and three AFC Championship Cleveland Browns teams (1946-48) with Otto Graham.
  • Finished his pro career in 1949 with the Buffalo Bills.
